"Many countries are heading in the wrong direction," warns the World Health Organization

The head of the World Health Organization (WHO) has warned that the situation could worsen if some governments do not take decisive action to stop the spread of the corona virus.

"We are seeing a 'dangerous increase in victims'' in countries where 'proven risk mitigation measures are not being implemented,'" said Dr. Tedros Adhanom Grebesis.

"Let me be clear, a lot of countries are going in the wrong direction," Dr. Tedros said at a briefing in Geneva on Monday.

"The virus is number one in anti-people sentiment, but it is not reflected in the actions of many governments and people."

Dr Tedros said "mixed messages from leaders" were undermining efforts to control the epidemic.

Although Dr. Tedros did not name these leaders, some believe he was referring to US President Donald Trump and other leaders who have been widely criticized for tackling the epidemic. ۔

Dr. Tedros added, "If the basics are not followed, there is only one way left."

"The situation will get worse and worse."
